Design with clay.

The short and sweet of it, I am passionate about design in all its forms. I spend a lot of my time designing outdoor spaces the world ‘round as a landscape architect. I guess you could say that nature and craft and music are in my blood, I come from a family of makers. I was taught the language of creativity at a young age and encouraged to explore its various outlets, which led me to design.

Curiosity about, well, almost everything to do with creativity turned me into a jack-of-all-trades, taking up hobbies over the years in photography, piano, dance, singing, sewing, decorating, sketching, jewelry, baking, botany, and now pottery. All the hobbies inform one another though and allow me to grow and learn and stretch my brain away from complacency.

Ceramics checks a lot of boxes for me, which is one reason I ended up moving from New York City to upstate NY in 2019, to have the space to set up my own studio and have more time to explore the medium. Pottery is infinite, kind of like music, and rather clings to you, in more ways than one. While I still very much practice and take pleasure in landscape architecture, (shameless plug for my company BDG*LA), I feel lucky to have a complimentary but more immediate pursuit in ceramics.

My family includes a painter, candle-maker, wood workers, musicians, builders, and we like to collaborate whenever the opportunity presents itself. Currently my sister and I are doing a candle collab, hand poured candles in handmade vessels, with label art work by my mother. Check them out at www.pinepeatcandles.com!
